Achingly cool and überly aware of both itself and its audience, whether they’re the McSwiney-adoring book geeks, the Woody Allen-loving cineasts, the slangy-talking teens of the tale, or the married, mortgaged and moaning twenty- and thirty-somethings who used to be so in love with Sonic Youth and Belle & Sebastian. Whatever the button, Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody have pushed it in Juno.
Or, in the five word elevator pitch: Wes Anderson does Ghost World. (Without the Bus of Death.)

Woody Allen’s oddly uncinematic love-song to the Golden Age of radio.

Why did David Mamet take his name off this one?

Risible star-studded Americanisation of the classic story. Leelee Sobieski is a wooden Joan. Even Peter O’Toole can’t save this.

Forget this one. PDQ.
Standard, by-the-number sport-as-metaphor-for-something BOATS football flick. Dull as ditchwater that isn’t very bright.
Denzel Washington plays a standard Denzel Washington character, though unusually he manages to get to the end of the flick without being beaten, broken or killed. Now that was a surprise in a flick otherwise totally devoid of surprises.

Third and final of the original Hong Kong-based Infernal Affairs series. Stylish and sleek.
